IN THE GARDEN ROOM is an exploration of madness, desire and two women’s choices in a time when they weren’t really allowed to choose.
My Review:
This book was a very surprising reading, much more intense and profound than I expected.
The March family, John, Cora and their eleven year old daughter Lillian, lives in the countryside in Michigan. John is a simple fisherman and a father really affectionate but Cora is not happy wife, isn't satisfied, wishes to realize in life because knows she has talent. During a picnic she meets Zeke, a guy who promises her to make fortune in Chicago in his uncle's theater. Cora flees with her daughter in the city but unfortunately the theater is actually a brothel "The Garden Room". Cora sells her daughter. Will her father be able to save his child?
This story is very crueland realistic, the author is very good to present us Chicago of those years and her descriptions are so detailed that it seems to be in those dirty and smelly alleys. Another aspect that I appreciated was the changing of the point of views of the various characters in the story: it made the plot much more appealing

I find that very odd. Not the story part, I am used to stories, but the part
about the body. Just an hour ago, that body was Mother, but now she’s gone. Her
