In the interest of world peace...

That is the pretense for a meeting between America and a coalition of China, Russia, India, and Saudi Arabia. It is 2041, and the US president, Constance Higgins, recognizes the invitation for what it is. The countries are demanding a payment of gold. Previous administrations have sunk America into trillions of dollars of debt after giving citizenship and Social Security benefits to wave after wave of illegal aliens. Now, other countries scoff at the solvency of the US dollar.

As the financial crisis distracts the government, a sinister scheme is going into effect. Operation Dragon is a threat to the liberty of every man, woman, and child in America. The United States will have to rise up to fight an invading military force.

Army ranger Mike Dalton is one of the patriots to take a stand, but he is tormented by his relationship with the beautiful Kyla MacGregor. Their connection will have surprising repercussions in the fight that follows.

Through a cast of characters that includes army rangers, NSA, CIA, FBI, SS agents, and everyday Americans, John Henry Hardy celebrates US patriots and the courageous spirit that built this country.

Review: The Magician's Lie by Greer Macallister

The Magician's Lie
by Greer Macallister
Published by Sourcebooks Landmark on January 13, 2015
Genres:  Historical Fiction, Magical Realism

Pages: 320
Format: eBook, Paperback
Source: NetGalley

Summary From Goodreads
Water for Elephants meets The Night Circus in The Magician’s Lie, a debut novel in which the country’s most notorious female illusionist stands accused of her husband's murder --and she has only one night to convince a small-town policeman of her innocence. The Amazing Arden is the most famous female illusionist of her day, renowned for her notorious trick of sawing a man in half on stage. One night in Waterloo, Iowa, with young policeman Virgil Holt watching from the audience, she swaps her trademark saw for a fire ax. Is it a new version of the illusion, or an all-too-real murder? When Arden’s husband is found lifeless beneath the stage later that night, the answer seems clear. But when Virgil happens upon the fleeing magician and takes her into custody, she has a very different story to tell. Even handcuffed and alone, Arden is far from powerless—and what she reveals is as unbelievable as it is spellbinding. Over the course of one eerie night, Virgil must decide whether to turn Arden in or set her free… and it will take all he has to see through the smoke and mirrors.

My Review
Last year I had read "Night Circus" and I had adored it. As soon as I saw that this book was very similar to it I immediately decided to read it. It has literally impressed me. Now I can not wait to read "Water to Elephants".
It all happens in one night: Arden is arrested by Virgil Holt and in the barrack are just the two of them. Arden is accused of killing her husband: he was her assistant and died during an exhibition of magic. She proclaims innocent and begins to tell her life hoping to convince the policeman of her innocence. The story is a continuous alternation of the story of Arden's past and Virgil's story of that night.
Arden is the most famous woman illusionist: it had cost her so much to get there. She grew up with her mother, has never met her father. The only thing she may have inherited from him is her healing gift. She dreamed of becoming a dancer but had to give up because of her terrible cousin Ray.
The atmosphere of this book is really magical and engaging, once you start reading it drags you in and you would not to leave it anymore. It's full of suspense and twists from cover to cover. The love story is very special and romantic. It's really well written, doesn't look like a debut writer, I hope I can read another piece of her work soon.
If you have loved "Night Circus" try reading this story and you will not be disappointed.

Review & Giveaway: A Flair For Drama by Deborah Garner

When a former schoolmate invites flamboyant senior sleuth Sadie Kramer to a theatre production, she jumps at the excuse to visit the Monterey Bay area for a weekend. With quaint Carmel shops a short drive away and luxurious linens in her hotel accommodations, the excursion promises to be both entertaining and relaxing.

Plenty of action is expected on stage, but when the show's leading lady turns up dead, Sadie finds herself faced with more than one drama to follow. With both cast members and production crew as potential suspects, will Sadie and her sidekick Yorkie, Coco, be able to solve the case?

Available on the following sites....

My Review
I was looking forward to reading another adventure of Sadie and her tender dog Coco, I liked them so much in the first episode of this series.
Sadie has decided to spend some days away from San Francisco to attend the general test of a theater drama for which her old friend Roxy works. When one of the protagonist of the show is found murdered, Sadie's vacation turns in a work of investigation, only she and Coco can solve this case.
It's a funny story, very enjoyable, unpredictable, with lots of suspicions and a good dose of humor. Sadie is a really charming and funny person, I love her more and more.
If you love cozy mystery with a dog as "main character" this is a must read.

"Deborah Garner is gifted at bringing each character to life. She adds details seamlessly, making it seem like you know these people. She presents scenarios that have you thinking you know who did it, and then in the next sentence you are second guessing yourself. And that is to say, this is a great “who done it” … it gets 2 thumbs up from me :)" - reviews Tracy Helps You

"I love the way Deborah Garner describes everything in this book, and I can't wait to read more in this series! This book literally kept me guessing until the very end." - reviews Sanity is for those without children

"Deborah Garner has created a unique and very flamboyant main character who seems to find trouble all by herself and turns into an amateur sleuth!" - reviews Miki's Hope

A Flair for Chardonnay (A Sadie Kramer Flair Mystery Book 1)

When flamboyant senior sleuth Sadie Kramer learns the owner of Cioccolato, her favorite chocolate shop, is in trouble, she heads for the California wine country with a tote-bagged Yorkie and a slew of questions. The fourth generation Tremiato Winery promises answers, but not before a dead body turns up at the vintners’ scheduled Harvest Festival.

All four Tremiato siblings have possible motives, as well as a few peripheral acquaintances, but only one could be the guilty party. As Sadie juggles truffles, tips and turmoil, she’ll need to sort the grapes from the wrath in order to find the identity of the killer.

Review & Giveaway: Bayside Desires by Melissa Foster

Fall in love at Bayside, where sandy beaches, good friends, and true love come together in the sweet small towns of Cape Cod.

BAYSIDE SUMMERS is a series of standalone steamy romance novels featuring alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They're fun, flirty, flawed, deeply emotional, always passionate, and easy to relate to.

In Bayside Desires...
As the co-owner of Bayside Resorts, Rick Savage has a fabulous job working with his best friends and brother, and a thriving business in Washington, DC, which he’ll be returning to at the end of the summer. Spending time with his family is great, but being back on Cape Cod has unearthed painful memories. When sweet, smart, and overly cautious Desiree Cleary moves in next door, Rick is drawn to the sexy preschool teacher, and she just might prove to be the perfect distraction.

Running an art gallery was not in preschool teacher Desiree Cleary’s plans, but after being tricked into coming to her impetuous, unreliable mother’s aid, she’s stuck spending the summer with the badass half sister she barely knows and a misbehaving dog. If that’s not frustrating enough, she can’t escape the sparks igniting with her strikingly handsome and pushy neighbor, Rick, who makes all her warning bells go off.

Passion ignites as Desiree and Rick spend long summer nights sharing heartfelt confessions and steamy kisses. For the first time in years Rick is enjoying life again instead of hiding behind mounds of work miles away from his family. Desiree has touched him in a way that makes him want to slow down. Only slowing down means dealing with his demons, and he isn’t sure who he’ll be when he comes out the other side.

All Bayside books can be read as standalone novels or as part of the series:
Coming Soon...
Bayside Heat
Bayside Escape
Bayside Passions

*** Bayside Summers is part of the Love in Bloom romance collection by New York Times & USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Melissa Foster. While each book may be read as a standalone, you might enjoy reading the entire Love in Bloom series. Characters from each sub-series appear in future books. Visit Melissa's website for family trees, series checklists, and more.

**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

My Review

A new series by Melissa Foster means another enjoyable, fun, sexy and romantic adventure. She never disappoints.
Rick and Desiree fall in love at first glance, their first encounter is so exciting. Rick is driving his jet ski while Desiree is watching him from the beach. Rick has a business with a couple of friends in Washington DC but is spending the summer at Cape Code to help his brother and his friend restructure their resort. Desiree must help her mother with her job but it's a trap to allow her and her sister Violet to build a relationship. Rick and Desiree find themselves close to home and have to understand if their story is just a summer adventure or a great love story in which they must manage the distance.
The chemistry between the two protagonists is really hot. I love Rick's family, is so numerous and they are so united. Desiree's family, however, is very problematic, has grown far away from her mother and her sister and is very different from them. Her relationship with Rick will change her and will also change her family relationships.
This story is not just a sweet love story but also about friendship and family relationships. It was a very entertaining and fun reading with many scenes to laugh loudly.
This book is perfect as summer reading.
